South Korea women’s national soccer team midfielder Cho So-hyun (35-Tottenham Wimmin) has set her sights on “reaching the quarterfinals” ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia-New Zealand 2023.
“The first and second World Cups felt a little different,” Cho said in a pre-training interview at Gyeonggi Paju NFC on the morning of the 26th. “If we go to the third World Cup, I think we will be able to play a good game because we have time and experience.”
The Korean women’s soccer team, led by head coach Colleen Bell, convened at the Paju NFC on Nov. 18 to begin training. Overseas players such as Cho So-hyun joined the team late.
This is the third World Cup for Cho, who has played for the A team since 2007. At the 2015 World Cup in Canada, he wore the captain’s armband and helped the team reach the round of 16. South Korea (17th in the FIFA rankings), who are in Group H, will open their campaign on July 25 against Colombia (25th) in Sydney, Australia, before facing Morocco (72nd) in Adelaide on July 30 and Germany (2nd) in Brisbane on August 3.
Prior to that, the team will play an exhibition match against Haiti at the Seoul World Cup Stadium on August 8. The final 23-man roster will then be finalized before traveling to Australia for the final match on Sept. 10.
