Harry Maguire’s (Manchester United) woes continue.
Maguire scored an own goal in England’s match against Scotland on July 13. Leading 2-0, Maguire came on as a second-half substitute and scored an own goal in the 22nd minute. It was England’s only goal of the game. England went on to win 3-1, but the criticism didn’t stop there.
Many fans and even soccer pundits took aim at Maguire. On top of that, Maguire had already faced a steady stream of ridicule and criticism at United. He was stripped of his captaincy and relegated to the ranks. Despite being heavily linked with a move away from the club, Maguire stayed put. He’s looking to bounce back at United. Then came the accusations. Maguire’s saga continues to twist and turn.
At this point, Frank McAvennie, a former West Ham and Aston Villa striker, predicted that Maguire would never play for United again. He now works as a soccer pundit.
“I don’t think Maguire will ever play for United again,” McAvenney told the UK’s Football Insider. He won’t have a chance at United because of the controversy surrounding his playing career,” he said.
“He needs to grow up and turn the negativity into positivity. He’s not a bad player, but he’s not a good player at United. I don’t think Maguire will ever play for United again.”
There is one solution, he suggested. A transfer.
“I don’t think there’s any chance of Maguire getting a place at United again,” McAvennie said. Maguire would be better off moving on. He needs to get away from Old Trafford to get back to his best. He has to go through this rough way.” 메이저사이트
He added: “I don’t understand why Maguire didn’t want to leave. He could have transferred. Maguire needs to go to another team to get his confidence back. He needs to go to another team to play.”
Maguire has only played one game this season. He didn’t play in the fifth round match against Brighton & Hove Albion on the 16th after the national team situation broke. Maguire was named on the bench but did not take the field. With Raphael Varane injured, Eric ten Hagg was forced to call upon Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez.
