‘Invincibles’ Spain celebrate first major win in 11 years…beat Croatia on penalties

Spain is back on top of European soccer’s national championships after an 11-year absence.

The 2022-2023 European Football Association (UEFA) Nations League Final took place at Stadion Feyenoord in Rotterdam, Netherlands, on Monday morning (June 19). Spain battled Croatia to an extra-time tie before eventually winning 5-4 on penalties to lift the trophy after a 0-0 draw.

Goalkeeper Unai Simone (Athletic Bilbao) saved sixth kicker Bruno Petkovic (Dinamo Zagreb) in the penalty shootout, and Dani Carvajal (Real Madrid) found the back of the net to seal the win.

Spain reached the final with a 2-1 victory over Italy in the quarterfinals, and then knocked off a Luka Modric (Real Madrid) led Croatia to win 안전놀이터 a major tournament again, 11 years after winning Euro 2012.

Spain also became only the second country to win the World Cup, the European Championship and the Nations Cup. The first was France.

After the game, Rodri (Manchester City), who was named Man of the Match, said: “We are so happy. It was a really tough game. It was difficult.”

Rodri scored the winning goal in the 2022-2023 UEFA Champions League final against Inter Milan to lead City to their first ever title and treble in the competition.

Spain’s attacking lineup included Marco Asensio (Real Madrid), Alvaro Morata (Atletico Madrid) and Pablo Gabi (FC Barcelona).
